Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) through its notification issued on 8th July, 2009 completely banned bringing in of mobile phones in commercial quantity in their baggage by international passengers. However, unscrupulous elements still get involved in smuggling of mobile phones through international airport.

One such attempt was foiled on Friday by the Customs staff at Jinnah International Airport. 3,720 mobile phones of different brands of Nokia from a passenger named Hasham Ahmad, who had arrived from Dubai via PIA Flight No PK-228 at 4:30 am.

He hired two loaders one from CAA and other from PIA and gave them one trolley each and asked them to move through green channel. The alert Customs staff identified the baggage as suspected and diverted it towards scanning machine. While the baggage was being scanned, the passenger fled away. Goods have been seized, F.I.R has been lodged and efforts are being made to arrest the passenger Hasham Ahmad.-PR
